Alec Stewart is considered one of England’s best wicketkeeper-batsmen. He played 133 Test matches and scored 8463 runs at an average of 39. Stewart registered 15 centuries and 45 fifties in Test cricket.
3. Graham Gooch – 8900 runs
Graham Gooch was one of England’s greatest batsmen. He played Test cricket for two decades, from 1975 to 1995, scoring 8900 runs in 118 matches at an average of 42. Gooch recorded 20 Test centuries and 46 half-centuries.
2. Joe Root – 12402* runs
Joe Root is regarded as one of England’s best-ever Test batsmen. He is currently the second-highest run-scorer for England in Test cricket, with 12402* runs to his name. Root is just 70 runs away from breaking Alastair Cook’s record for the most Test runs by an English player.
Root has already surpassed Cook in terms of Test centuries, with 34 to his name. He has played 146 Test matches, averaging 50, and has also hit 64 half-centuries—the most by any English cricketer.
1. Alastair Cook – 12472 runs
Alastair Cook holds the record for the most Test runs by an English batsman. However, Joe Root is on the verge of surpassing him. Cook played 161 Test matches and scored 12472 runs at an average of 45, including 33 centuries and 57 half-centuries.
Cook was also the first England batsman to cross the 10,000-run mark in Test cricket, cementing his legacy as one of England’s greatest players.
