Ellyse Perry to Lead Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred: Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry has been named the new captain of the Birmingham Phoenix for England’s white-ball Hundred competition. She replaces New Zealand’s Sophie Devine, who will still be part of the squad.
Perry, a seasoned leader, has captained the Sydney Sixers throughout all eight seasons of the Women’s Big Bash League. Now, she will aim to enhance Birmingham Phoenix’s performance in The Hundred.
Birmingham Phoenix Appoints Third Captain in Three Years
With Perry taking charge, Birmingham Phoenix will have its third captain in three seasons. She takes over from Devine, under the guidance of Australian coach Ben Sawyer. Sawyer has worked with Perry at the Sydney Sixers and currently coaches the New Zealand women’s team.

Ellyse Perry’s Return to T20 Cricket
Despite losing her place in Australia’s T20 squad in 2022, Perry made a strong comeback after a successful tour of India the same year. She retained her spot through the victorious T20 World Cup campaign in South Africa in February.
So far, eight Australian women, including Perry, have been confirmed for The Hundred, along with seven Australian men.
