Ranji Trophy Elite 2024-25 Schedule & Details: The Ranji Trophy is back! This is India’s biggest domestic First-Class cricket tournament, and the 2024-25 season marks its 90th edition. While some changes have been introduced, the format remains the same.
Tournament Format
A total of 38 teams will participate, representing different states. Some states even have multiple teams, like Maharashtra (Mumbai, Maharashtra, and Vidarbha) and Gujarat (Baroda, Saurashtra, and Gujarat).
The competition is divided into two tiers:
- Elite Division – 32 teams split into four groups of eight.
- Plate Division – Six teams competing in a separate group.
Promotion and Relegation
- Each team in the Elite Division plays all other teams in its group once.
- The top two teams from each group qualify for the quarter-finals, followed by semi-finals and the final.
- The Plate Division follows a round-robin format, with the top four teams reaching the semi-finals.
- The Plate Division winner earns promotion to the Elite Division.
- The two weakest Elite Division teams (based on points and net run rate) are relegated to the Plate Division.
Last season, Goa and Manipur were relegated, while Nagaland and Hyderabad secured promotion. Who will rise and fall this year? It promises to be an exciting season!
