Ibrahim Zadran Makes Highest Score In ICC CT History: Afghanistan’s opening batter, Ibrahim Zadran, created history in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 by scoring the highest individual score in the tournament’s history. Zadran played a sensational knock of 177 runs against England, making it the highest individual score ever in Champions Trophy history as well as the highest ODI score by an Afghan player.
The match, which was held at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, saw Afghanistan taking on England in a Group B clash of Match 8 in the ongoing tournament. After winning the toss, Afghanistan chose to bat first, and Zadran’s heroic innings powered them to a strong total of 325/7.
Ibrahim Zadran’s Heroic Knock
Afghanistan didn’t have the best of starts after choosing to bat first. They lost three wickets for just 37 runs in the powerplay, putting them under immense pressure. However, Ibrahim Zadran held one end firmly and started to rebuild the innings.
He formed a crucial 103-run partnership with captain Hashmatullah Shahidi, who contributed 40 runs. After the skipper’s dismissal, Zadran continued his dominance and added another 72 runs alongside Azmatullah Omarzai. Despite losing wickets, Zadran remained strong at the crease.
Zadran completed his century in the 37th over, but the real acceleration came in the final 10 overs. Alongside veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi, Zadran helped Afghanistan smash 113 runs in the death overs. This aggressive display not only boosted Afghanistan’s total but also helped Zadran reach his record-breaking score.
In the 47th over, Ibrahim Zadran crossed the 150-run mark, becoming only the second player in Champions Trophy history to do so. Moments later, he broke the previous highest individual score record of 165, which was set by England’s Ben Duckett earlier in the same tournament.
Unfortunately, Zadran was dismissed on the first ball of the final over, scoring an incredible 177 runs off 146 balls, which included 12 fours and 6 sixes. His knock not only rewrote the Champions Trophy record books but also became the highest individual ODI score for Afghanistan, surpassing his own previous record of 162 runs against Sri Lanka in 2022.
Afghanistan Finish With 325/7
Thanks to Zadran’s exceptional innings, Afghanistan managed to post a competitive total of 325/7 in their 50 overs. It was a crucial game for Afghanistan, as they had already lost their opening match against South Africa and needed a win to keep their semi-final hopes alive.
On the other hand, England were also under pressure after losing their first match against Australia. They too needed a victory to stay in the semi-final race, making this game a high-pressure contest for both sides.
Zadran Creates History in Champions Trophy
With this innings, Ibrahim Zadran now holds the highest individual score in ICC Champions Trophy history (177 runs). He surpassed Ben Duckett’s record of 165 runs, which was set just a few days ago in the same tournament.
Additionally, Zadran’s 177 also became the highest individual ODI score by any Afghanistan batter, further adding to his growing reputation as a reliable and talented opener.
Afghanistan will now hope their bowlers can defend this total and keep their Champions Trophy 2025 journey alive. Meanwhile, England will need a solid batting performance to avoid being eliminated from the tournament.
